The
Palladium Theater
The Palladium's Community
Theater Mission
Since its creation in 1998, The Palladium Theater has had a central
mission of service as a community theater. Over time, five distinct
community service programming principles have emerged. Each is described
below, along with some illustrative examples.
In February 2007, the Palladium Theater became part of St. Petersburg
College. In accepting the property, the College made a commitment to
continue to operate the Palladium as a community theater, while adding
college functions where appropriate. Under the umbrella of St. Petersburg
College, the Palladium enjoys access to funding and organizational support
that will assure the theater of a long-term future as a vital part of the
cultural life of our community.
Cultural Diversity: A community theater offers opportunities to perform
and to attend performances that have value for all the different
communities that are part of our cultural fabric . It is central to this
mission that all cultural styles be made welcome in the theater.
Emerging Artists: A community theater offers opportunities for artistic
groups of all sizes and experience levels, including emerging groups . A
corollary of this principle is that there are going to be occasional
missteps along the way. Emerging artists need a space where they can learn
from their mistakes as well as celebrate their triumphs.
Hometown Heroes: A community theater is dedicated to fostering the
development and performance opportunities of the performers who make our
community their home.
Learning Experiences: A community theater is involved in learning
opportunities for all, from young people getting started in the world of
theater to retirees enriching their lives through adult learning .
Support for Community Groups: A community theater offers community groups
space to meet, plan, and hold special events .
