Florida International Museum has become one of Florida's premier cultural
attractions, having hosted over 2.5 million visitors since it opened in 1995. A
Smithsonian Affiliate, FIM's mission is to bring the world to you through
diverse rotating national and international exhibitions. Winter 2006 features:
Ink & Blood: Sacred Treasures of the Bible thru May 14. The Smithsonian comes to
town from May 25 - September 30, when FIM features Jeweled Objects of Desire
from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History concurrently with Folk
Art, Fossils and Gilded Bronze: From the Vaults of Florida Smithsonian
Affiliates - The Mary Brogan Museum of Art, Daytona Museum of Arts and Sciences

The beach at Fort De Soto is ranked as America's Best Beach for 2005. The
Quartermaster Storehouse Museum is the newest historical addition to Fort De
Soto Park. It highlights the history of the Fort and the surrounding area. Using
photographs, Army engineering condition reports, and government documents, the
museum is a duplicate in size and scale of the original Quartermaster Storehouse
building. The reconstructed 833-square-foot wooden building was built entirely
by park staff. Fort De Soto Park is the largest county park in the area, with
1,136 acres on five interconnected islands located at the tip of Pinellas County
in Tierra Verde.

Great Explorations, the children's' museum, is a place where you can be

Located in the Pinewood Cultural Park, the Museum features permanent and
changing exhibitions of contemporary art created by Florida artists from 1960
forward and fine contemporary craft media objects from the Southeastern U.S.
Educational programs that supplement the exhibitions include lectures, programs,
films, festivals, tours and more. GCMA also offers classes and workshops for
children and adults in ceramics, metalsmithing, painting, sculpture, photography
and drawing. GCMA's hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sunday, 12pm-4pm; and
Closed Monday. Admission is $5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 students, free for
children under 12 and museum members. Free admission on Thursdays. Docent-led
tours are available for groups.

This beautiful museum on the St. Petersburg waterfront features the only

Weedon Island Preserve combines a wonderful nature experience on a site with
fascinating historical significance. The Cultural and Natural Histor Center
features classrooms and exhibit areas designed by anthropologists, historians
and Native Americans to reflect the art and history of the area?s first people.
Weedon Island Preserve is a group of low-lying islands in north St. Petersburg
whose history goes back 10,000 years when early peoples such as the Timucuans
and Manasotas made the island their home. The center combines a look at
artifacts excavated from the site by the Smithsonian in the 1940s, as well as
the chance to experience aspects of Native American culture including dance,
cooking, art, crafts and more. The preserve also includes a nature experience
with a 4-mile canoe trail and 9-mile hiking trail along with a fishing pier and
waterfront picnic sites.
