Are You Confusing Your Brain? How to Program Your Mind to Attract What You Want

by Jack Canfield

We all aspire to be, do and have great things. Yet most of us simply aren’t creating the results we want. We don’t have enough money, romance, success or joy in our lives. But what we need to understand is that greatness exists in all of us. It is simply up to us to pull it out of ourselves. We all have genius. We just need to learn how to apply it.

Decide What You Want

In order to get what you want, you must first decide what you want. Most people really foul up at this crucial first step because they simply can’t see how it’s possible to get what they want — so they don’t even let themselves want it. Don’t sabotage yourself that way! What scientists now know about how the brain works is that you must first decide WHAT you want, before your brain can figure out HOW to get it. Once you lock-in your desires, your mind and the universe can step in. Are you ready to get started?

Be Willing to Dream Big Dreams

As soon as you commit to a big dream and really go after it, your subconscious creative mind will come up with big ideas to make it happen. You’ll start attracting the people, resources, and opportunities you need into your life to make your dream come true. Big dreams not only inspire you, they compel others to want to play big, too.

Set Goals That Will Stretch You

Another value in giving yourself permission to go after the big dreams is that big dreams require you to grow in order to achieve them. In fact, in the long run, that is the greatest benefit you will receive from pursuing your dreams — not so much the outer trappings of fulfilling the dream (an expensive car, impressive house, loads of money and philanthropic opportunities), but who you become in the process. As I’ve seen many times over, the outer symbols of success, can all be easily lost. Houses burn down, companies go bankrupt, relationships end in divorce, cars get old, bodies age and fame wanes, but who you are, what you have learned and the new skills you have developed never go away. These are the true prizes of success. Motivational philosopher, Jim Rohn advises that “You should set a goal big enough that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming.”

Service to Others

Something else you’ll discover is that when your dreams include service to others — accomplishing something that contributes to others — it also accelerates the accomplishment of that goal. People want to be part of something that contributes and makes a difference.

Turn Your Dreams into Goals and Objectives

Once you are clear about what you want, you must turn each item into a measurable objective. By measurable, I mean measurable in space and time — how much and by when. For instance, if you were to tell me that you wanted more money, I might pull out a dollar and give it to you, but you would probably protest, saying “No, I meant a lot more money — like $20,000!” Well, how am I supposed to know unless you tell me? Similarly, your boss, your friends, your spouse, your brain — God, the Universe — can’t figure out what you want unless you tell them specifically what it is. What do you want — exactly — and when do you want it by?

Write Your Goals Down

Write your goals down in detail, and read your list of goals every day. This will keep your subconscious mind focused on what you want. For an even more powerful approach, close your eyes and focus on each goal and ask yourself, "What is one thing I could do today to move toward the achievement of this goal?" Write down your answers and take those actions. To help your reticular activating system begin finding YOUR wants in unexpected places, take time now to decide what you want and start writing! Remember, don't hold back!

Rules for Renegades: How to Make More Money, Rock Your Career, and Revel in Your Individuality

by Christine Comaford-Lynch

Bill Gates calls her "super high bandwidth."

President Bill Clinton has thanked her for "fostering American entrepreneurship."

Newsweek says she's "the person you want to partner with."

Review Publishers Weekly:

Starred Review. High school dropout turned self-made multimillionaire and five-time CEO, Comaford-Lynch presents an upbeat, irreverent business book for entrepreneurs, free spirits and eponymous renegades. Focusing on passionate young people who have grit and vision but limited experience and/or resources, the author presents practical, step-by-step advice for starting a company, making it in a cutthroat environment and reaching life goals in record time, while recounting her entertaining, often hilarious life story. To some extent, all first-time CEOs are making it up as they go along, she says. Sure enough, she's found herself brazening her way through plenty of bizarre and touching situations: hiring employees before she actually has a firm; posing as a man to score a programming job in the macho world of '80s Microsoft; dating Bill Gates to learn confidence; making (and losing) millions of dollars through guts, sales know-how and force of personality. Emphasizing visualization and self-confidence, she tackles the spiritual issues of prosperity as well as the down-and-dirty details of payroll and writing a killer business plan. Entrepreneurs and leaders at all levels of their careers will find this inspiring, rags-to-riches story as pleasurable to read as it is thought provoking. (Sept.) Success Principles # 1

TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE

As human beings, we often believe we don't have enough money, romance, success or joy in our lives. But what we need to understand is that greatness exists in all of us. It's simply a matter of pulling that greatness out of ourselves and using it to get us from where we are now ... to where we want to be.

While many people believe they are entitled to live a great life, top achievers we've met over the years know they must take 100% responsibility for achieving the lifestyle, relationships, financial freedom and opportunities they experience in their lives.

This isn't always easy. But one way to start taking more responsibility is to begin responding differently to the events that occur in your life. Remember the formula from Principle #1 of The Success Principles book?

---->>> E + R = O

Event + Response = Outcome.

That's right...you can actually change the outcomes in your life - and get better ones - simply by responding differently to challenges and opportunities that occur.

Listen now as Jack walks you through how to respond differently using the E+R=O formula.

Click on this audio link now and wait a few moments for today's audio lesson to start playing:

Taking 100% responsibility is what successful people do.

And it's the first step YOU must take on your new Success Principles journey.

Seven Really Low-Cost Ways To Market Your Business

By: Dale W. Hutchings

Sure, it goes without saying, if you have plenty of marketing dollars there are numerous ways you can market your business. But what if you only have a small budget? Are you doomed for failure because you don’t have a big budget for marketing your products or services? Not necessarily. Here are seven proven methods to help you get your business off the ground without spending a fortune. (They’re great ideas for established businesses as well that could use a boost!)

1) Have A Professional-Looking Business Card Printed Immediately. Your business card is often your introduction to a potential client or customer. Therefore, this is one item where it pays to spend a little extra money and have an attractive, eye-catching business card made. Avoid simple black and white cards, go for a second color, or have your card printed on quality colored stock. Make an impression. Demonstrate to people that you are a professional who takes his or her business seriously. (Likewise, take this approach in having your letterhead, envelopes and any other necessary collateral material printed.)

2) Network! Network! Network! There are all kinds of business and professional organizations that have meetings where you can network with other business people to make your business known. At these meetings, get your business cards into the hands of as many people as possible – especially those individuals you believe may be a potential customer for you or can refer you to business people needing your products or services.

3. Do Charity Work. There are all kinds of non-profit agencies and charities in need of volunteers. Get involved with at least one or more charities by giving your time to them in some way. For example, I often tell realtors if they want to make contacts within the real estate industry and possibly business referrals, give a few hours of your time each month to the Habitat for Humanity in your community. What a great way to meet people who work in your industry (building contractors, electricians, landscapers, plumbers, etc.) and at the same time help a wonderful cause.

4. Do Public Speaking. This marketing strategy isn’t for everyone. Yes, there are many people who would rather have a colonoscopy or root canal surgery (even if they don’t need it) than speak in public. But for you gutsy people who like speaking in public doing speaking engagements is a wonderful, inexpensive way to make you and your business known. Furthermore, there are literally dozens of clubs, organizations and business groups seeking speakers for their meetings. Start today coming up with one or two “canned” consumer-oriented, educational talks in which you can share with others your expertise. Then contact various organizations in your community and find out who their program chairperson is and get yourself on their schedule to speak.

As for those of you who get too many butterflies in your stomach to do public speaking, get involved with an organization that can help you overcome your fear. One excellent resource is to join a Toastmasters Club. (For more information on Toastmasters, visit www.toastmasters.org and find a club near you.)

5. Offer Free, No Obligation Consultations. To get people to think about what you can do for them, offer to give businesspeople you may be interested in working with a half-hour or hour consultation at no charge. During the consultations offer practical suggestions or ideas that may help them with their businesses. Then before you leave, approach them regarding a possible “order,” proposal or future contract signing to do business.

6. Ask Existing Clients, Prospective Customers And Other Business People For Referrals. There is no better referral than getting one from a satisfied customer. If you have prospective clients that are not quite ready to do business with you because of budget restrictions but like the products or services you offer, don’t be afraid to ask them for a referral. Furthermore, don’t hesitate to ask fellow business people you have developed strong relationships with for referrals. They can’t help you if you don’t ask.

7. Look For Various Organizations Offering Free Small Business Counseling. Yes, there are still things that are free in this world including free business counseling from such organizations as SCORE – an organization in partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA) and made up of retired professionals who offer free one-on-one business counseling; government and/or state university-supported business development centers; and various Chambers of Commerce.

Can You Turn Fat Into Muscle?

by Joy Bauer, M.S., R.D., C.D.N.

You may have heard that by following a proper diet and exercise program, you can actually turn body fat into muscle.

Not true. Fat and muscle are two separate entities. You must burn fat and build muscle.

Here's how fat is burned:

When you lose weight (by eating less and exercising more), an enzyme located in fat cells disassembles the fat compounds and sends the components into the bloodstream. Liver and muscle cells take up these components and disassemble them even further until what's left is a compound called acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA then enters the Krebs cycle, a series of chemical reactions that takes place in the mitochondria -- the cell's "power plant."

The end product is made up of ...

• Carbon dioxide, which is expelled when you exhale.
• Water, which is lost as urine and perspiration.
• Heat, which helps maintain body temperature.
• ATP, the molecule that fuels cellular activities that require energy.

On the flip side, to build muscle you need to work those muscles on a regular basis (no pain, no gain)...and eat appropriate amounts of dietary protein. Your protein grams for the day should total about 50% of your body weight in pounds, unless you're a serious athlete, in which case your protein requirements should total about 50-80% of your body weight in pounds.
